It’s an Old Javanese epic performed in a contemporary stage production. It aims to introduce audience of the ‘Langendriyan’ tradition, a classical dance originated from the Mangkunegaran Palace in Central Java, into a contemporary work. The performance has been widely recognized for stylistic and innovative stage set.
The illustration of the main character ‘Rubiyah’ with her bow portrays the fighting spirit of Matah Ati in defending their home and dignity. The ornate motifs in her dress represents symbols in Javanese culture. The color Black and Red signifies Love and War.
